  1. Atom and Cadence’s final conversation before Cadence’s trial
  2. Cadence’s trial and exile to Archeston territory

Atom and Cadence’s Final Conversation

Atom tells Cadence that he will look after Lace.

Cadence is broken and defeated, knowing the Founders have already turned against him. He blames himself for Dawce’s betrayal, especially because he allowed her into Founder meetings and gave her the opportunity to influence decisions from within.

Atom then reveals that he has a plan.

He explains that when Cadence is taken to the border and forced into Archeston territory, he will technically be trespassing. Under Archeston law, outsiders who cross the border can be arrested and imprisoned.

But Atom has prepared a way around this.

He gives Cadence a formal application to become a Gatekeeper. Atom makes the document with his Founder signet, making it official enough to be recognised when Cadence crosses the border.

This means that when Cadence enters Archeston territory, he will not simply be a trespasser. He will be an applicant seeking entry into the Gatekeepers.

Atom also reveals something even more important: he has heard that Dawce may still be alive and is possibly with the Gatekeepers.

Cadence is stunned.

Atom tells him that this may be his only way to reach her. He needs Cadence to survive, find Dawce, and bring her home.

Cadence realises that Atom has not abandoned him. Despite voting against him publicly, Atom has secretly given him a chance.

Cadence hugs his brother. For the first time since his downfall, he understands that Atom is trying to save him.

Cadence’s Trial and Send-Off

Cadence has already been stripped of his Founder status. The trial is to decide whether he is guilty and should be imprisoned.
