Overview
In the Timekeeper Universe, characters are categorized on a spectrum of morality, ranging from light to dark. This system adds depth and nuance to the narrative, allowing for complex character development and moral ambiguity.
The Spectrum
- Light: Represents ultimate good, embodied by Ely
- Light Grey: Characters who are mostly good-willed and just, but with shades of grey
- Grey: The central point, represented by Fateus
- Dark Grey: Characters who are mostly bad-willed and unjust, but still with elements of grey
- Dark: Represents ultimate evil, embodied by Claw
Key Characters
Three characters anchor the moral spectrum:
- Ely: The embodiment of pure light
- Fateus: The central grey character, torn between light and dark
- Claw: The embodiment of pure darkness
Narrative Significance
This moral spectrum creates the central conflict for Fateus, who must ultimately choose between the light and dark paths. Most other characters in the story fall into the light grey or dark grey categories, adding complexity and realism to the narrative world.
Writing Principles
- Primal Key Characters are morally ambiguous (grey) and drive the plot
- Grey characters oscillate between good and evil actions
- The Ultimate Grey (Fateus) has significant influence on the story's direction
- Light and Dark characters represent moral extremes and remain consistent
