Moral Dilemmas: Characters facing tough choices that challenge their ethics.

The Gatekeepers

The Gatekeepers were originally established by both the people of the Anyth and Archeston, tasked with the independent role of unifying and protecting the rights of citizens on both sides. Despite their noble purpose, the Heavens, with their superior technology and resources, effectively overshadow the Gatekeepers within Archeston, exerting complete control over the populace. Nevertheless, the Gatekeepers strive to bring justice to the people, standing as the true arbiters of judgment.

Gatekeepers adopt a distinctive, detective-like appearance, dressed in black clothing. Their attire includes a large coat or suit jacket, dark sunglasses, a black umbrella, and a handgun. A key feature of their uniform is a black tie, which bears the symbol of their policing badge. Like other citizens of Archeston, they have a Moon implanted in their eyes. The leader of the Gatekeepers, known as the 'Standing Keeper,' is distinguished by an altered tie design.

The Gatekeepers’ attire is both a uniform and a projection of their identity—professional and presentable, yet devoid of practical use. It emphasizes order, or at least an attempt at it, contrasting sharply with the more advanced, eerie, and mechanical appearance of the Ravens . The Gatekeepers' clothing lacks armor or technological advantages, symbolizing their mundane and bleak existence, which is further reflected in their gothic, castle-like Keep.

In addition to their attire, Gatekeepers carry a device resembling a square-shaped iPhone. This device can be casually tossed aside, at which point it transforms into a drone for aerial surveillance. The device features a touch screen on its main square face that illuminates upon interaction. Despite its compact size, it is thick enough to unfold into two juxtaposed squares, similar to a wide iPad, offering a larger display area. This feature is particularly useful when another Gatekeeper lends their device to provide a more comprehensive view of the drone’s scouting footage.

The Gatekeepers prefer traditional methods, such as burning wood for light and comfort, rather than using electricity.

The youngest Gatekeeper is considered an apprentice to the Standing Keeper, shadowing him in his duties. The stigma that Gatekeepers are exclusively male is broken in Season 2 when the youngest recruit, 'Lace,' joins the force from the Anyth.

Gatekeepers were originally formed by both the Anyth and Archeston, and over time, they became a closed, hereditary order. Only those born into Gatekeeper families can become Gatekeepers; no new outsiders are allowed in. This bloodline tradition is central to their identity.

However, with conception now forbidden, a crucial issue arises: how will the Gatekeepers continue to exist without new recruits? Despite their opposition to the ban on conception—believing it goes against their bloodline—they are too afraid to challenge it. As a result, they continue to age without newer recruits, leading to their inevitable decline.
