perhaps this conversation happens at sadars and rogue ventures there again? a moment as he approaches where we seem him notice other civilians around him as he makes his way throuygh the darkness and he buttons up his trench coat high as so he covers his gatekeeper tie so that no one may notice
In Rogue’s final conversation with Quarie before the planned attack, he reveals his deep distress. This dialogue highlights Rogue’s internal conflict as he begins to doubt his faith in Heaven’s law. His belief starts to falter as he reflects on the morality of his actions and the monotonous, cyclical nature of his duties and daily life.
Rogue: (quiet, almost muttering)
“There’s something wrong with me. I hope there’s something wrong with me… because if there isn’t, then there’s something wrong with this world.”
Quarie: (steps closer)
“Then fix it.”
Rogue: (shaking his head)
“With more violence? You’re just planting seeds in ash.”
Quarie: (sharp)
“Seeds grow, Rogue. Even in ash. Sometimes the best actions are the ones you’re conflicted by. You have to be now—the way I know you dream of yourself to be.”
Rogue: (voice rising)
“Dream? What dream? There are no second chances in death, Quarie. Do you even care what happens to you? To your people?”
Quarie: (steadily, firm)
“My people… don’t exist. Only virtually. The goal isn’t to get us there. It’s to go from there.”
Rogue: (stands abruptly, pacing, frustration spilling out)
“And if you’re wrong? If this rebellion dies—”
Quarie: (locks eyes with him, unwavering)
“Then the idea lives. Right now we fill a place. Those citizens out there may not care now… and they probably won’t care later. But eventually… they will care… when we’re gone.”
